In order to ensure fair and equitable treatment of bank’s customers referred to as Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has devised Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) via their circular letter BPRD Circular Letter No. 18 of 2019 dated July 17, 2019 to facilitate and streamline account opening process for PEPs and banks have designated focal persons to facilitate in the process. Any PEP having grievance / disagreement with bank’s decision may contact the bank’s focal person nominated for the purpose.

Show content of Deposit Protection Mechanism – Public Awareness Information

The Deposit Protection Corporation (DPC) has been established under the Deposit Protection Corporation Act, 2016 as a subsidiary of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The primary objective of DPC is to protect small depositors for the losses incurred by them to the extent of protected amount, in the event of failure of a bank.

DPC has enhanced the level of protected deposit for all eligible depositors from Rs. 250,000/- (Rupees Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand) to up-to Rs. 500,000/- (Rupees Five Hundred Thousand) per depositor-per bank with immediate effect.

All scheduled banks operating in Pakistan are mandatory member institutions of deposits protection scheme.
