Strengthening New York City’s workforce

Deutsche Bank volunteers help young people from Henry Street Settlement prepare for employment opportunities.

CSR Americas hosted a workforce mentoring event at Deutsche Bank’s Wall Street office for Henry Street Settlement, a Born to Be partner. Employees from across the bank volunteered for a series of mock interviews with 30 young adults, where they provided immediate feedback and offered overall job and career guidance. Then, guests heard from a panel of first-year analysts who shared insights and advice from their own recent experiences of moving from school to work.

The participants were 18- to 24-year-olds enrolled in the Intern & Earn Program based at Henry Street’s Workforce Development Center. The program provides job readiness training and educational support services to young adults who are not connected to school or work. Last year, 94 motivated young adults participated in the program and 100% were placed into paid internships in promising industries.

This event reflects CSR Americas’ ongoing commitment to strengthening New York City’s workforce system on multiple levels, from field leadership to one-on-one coaching. As a member of the New York City Workforce Funders collaborative, housed at the New York Community Trust, Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation helps develop joint projects to spark innovation and coordinated action across sectors.

In addition, CSR Americas organizes volunteer opportunities throughout the year where employees can apply their education and work backgrounds toward furthering career development for a range of populations. Deutsche Bank partners with multiple nonprofits to engage employees as mentors, coaches and speakers at networking events, interview practice sessions, workshops and more.

Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation’s partnership with Henry Street Settlement extends beyond this body of work. Currently, the Foundation is also partnering with this organization as part of a multi-year, multi-million-dollar commitment to address the educational needs of homeless students in New York City.
