Deutsche Bank Honored by Internationals Network for Public Schools

Deutsche Bank and Jacques Brand, CEO of Deutsche Bank North America, were honored for supporting immigrant education at an event hosted by the Internationals Network for Public Schools in New York City on April 28. The event, a benefit celebrating the group’s 10th anniversary, raised more than $200,000 for education.

The Internationals Network runs 19 public high schools in New York, California and Washington, DC, that serve immigrant students who are learning English. As part of Born to Be, the bank’s global youth engagement program, the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation has supported the organization’s efforts to prepare students for college and is now helping to fund the development of a new high school in Queens that will reach mostly new immigrants from Mexico.

“As an employer, Deutsche Bank wants New York City to have a diverse and dynamic workforce,” Brand said at the event. “We’re proud to support the Internationals Network as it helps immigrant students develop their talents and prepare for the jobs of the future.”

Brand said the group’s mission resonated with him personally. “I moved to New York City from Belgium when I was six years old,” he explained. “I didn’t speak a word of English. I became the first in my family to go to college. For me to get where I am today, I needed wonderful teachers and organizations that cared enough to help me along the way.”

New York City Department of Education Chancellor Carmen Fariña and New York State Board of Regents Chancellor Merryl H. Tisch were also honored at the event.
