Deutsche Bank is a sponsor of the exhibit Modern Life: Edward Hopper and His Time, at the Whitney Museum from October 28th, 2010 through April 10th, 2011.  This exhibition is part of Deutsche Bank's longstanding support of the Whitney, a relationship that also includes the Whitney Biennial, once an ongoing showcase for Hopper and his peers.  Featuring approximately eighty-five works in a range of media, and combining well-known works with rarely shown early paintings and works on paper, Modern Life highlights the work of Edward Hopper, the original "groundbreaking" American artist, whose use of the subject matter of modern life to portray universal human experiences made him America's most iconic realist painter of the 20th century.  Hopper's work will be shown in relation to that of his most important contemporaries, tracing the development of realism in American art between 1900 and 1940, and emphasizing the diverse ways that artists depicted the sweeping transformations in urban and rural life that occurred during this period.  The vast majority of works will be drawn from the Whitney's collection, and to supplement the exhibition a variety of education programs will be designed to invoke participation from young and emerging artists.
